Book Journal With Me

December 2024 Reading List

For those of you fellow book lovers looking to dive into my own reading list I’ve got something for you. I’ve been adding my monthly reading lists to the Library section of the blog with links to grab the books on Amazon. Most are on Kindle Unlimited (link included) since I’m completely in love with that subscription and it saves me money with the crazy amount of books I read. December’s list is officially updated. I’ll work my way through some of the other months as I have time.

WARNING – The books I read are definitely NOT FOR EVERYONE. Please read any and all descriptions and warnings before starting any of these books. Some of them are very dark and honestly most are pretty smutty. And no judging please! To each their own and all that jazz.

I’ve also been creating book lists organized by authors that I love reading. These lists will be growing bit by bit as I get them caught up. So be sure to keep checking back. CLICK HERE to browse my author list.

Dirty Temptation #1

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Absolutely fantastic start to a series…

This is another great start to a new series from Samantha. I’m already hooked and can’t wait for the next book. I need more now!!!

Nova is starting fresh in a new place and at a new school because her mother has married someone new. Her new stepbrother and his friends taunt and harass her like she’s some shiny new toy to play with. But things get extra crazy when a group of masked men are thrown into the mix with their cryptic messages about a favor asked and a debt owed. And their leader likes to sneak in at night to torment her more.

Nova never knew she had a thing for a guy in a mask until she is faced with “two horns” in the dark. There’s just something about him that pulls her in and she can’t resist. And even though her neighbor Vox is one of her bullies at school, she finds herself loving the back and forth, push and pull with him. She’s all too happy to be torn between them both. But it soon becomes clear that not all is what at seems in her new home.

This dark romance has it all. Bullies, enemies to lovers, lies, secrets, betrayal, danger, plenty of yummy spice, secret society, found family, and more. Check those triggers if needed. I absolutely loved this book and the start of where this series could go next. And I loved Nova and Vox even when it wasn’t an easy journey for them. Oh so good!

The KORT #3

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Falling more and more in love with this series…

Ty has been one of my favorite characters in this series from the very beginning, so I was super excited to learn more of his backstory. And Brandy did not disappoint. Ty and Rena’s journey just made me fall even more in love with this series and this amazing world Brandy is creating.

As one of the top officials in KORT, Ty leads a dangerous life. That is just one of the excuses he makes for keeping his distance from Rena. It’s clear to everyone in his found family that he has feelings for the young Noire princess. But his tortured past is another reason he doesn’t want to make a move and bring Rena into his dark world.

Rena has had a major crush on Ty for years and has been secretly hoping he will one day finally make his move. After a moment of vulnerability from Ty, she starts to wonder if the attraction is not one sided after all. But when she discovers secrets that rock her foundations, she makes a run for it to get some space.

Ty is desperate to find Rena and keep her safe. When she drops some clues he’s ready to chase her no matter what. The danger in their interconnected worlds can no longer be avoided and decisions have to be made fast. Those decisions set things in motion that can’t be stopped. It’s a fight to prove themselves and a fight to stay alive.

Every time I think I know who my favorite couple in this series is Brandy throws me for a loop. So I’m refusing to choose. I loved Ty and Rena’s story so much. They fought their attraction for so long and deserved to be happy and heal. That’s exactly what they do for each other in their own special ways. I love this whole found family and their crazy, fun, and slightly twisted but fiercely loyal and protective dynamic. I just want more and more.

AUDIOBOOK UPDATE: This was another great addition to The KORT collection. I love how well these narrators brought Ty and Rena’s story to life. And the duet style narration is so good. Oh I love this series so much!! The audio just brings a whole new element to this world that just enhances how great it is.

Scorned Fate #1

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Matteo and Sera…

Sera is on the verge of an arranged marriage to fulfill her duty for her mafia family. Only she has crush on her best friend’s brother, Daniel. They’re friends but he just doesn’t seem to see her that way. But when bad boy Matteo, who works with Daniel, throws out the idea of fake dating to help her get Daniel’s attention, she can’t help but to entertain the thought.

The more time Sera and Matteo spend together the less fake things feel. And Daniel is constantly putting out mixed signals. When the man her uncle has been in talks with about an arranged marriage causes problems, things take a turn.

Sera is drawn to Matteo and all of his bossy possessiveness. But Matteo is holding on to some crucial information that may just throw a wrench in their growing relationship. Some groveling is a must. These two are meant to be even if things get a little convoluted for them along the way. This mafia romance is not on the dark side but sill has plenty of danger and spice that’s a must.

Scorned Fate #2

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Luca and Natalya…

We first met Luca as Sera’s uncle in book one of this series. And we met Natalya at the end of that book when Luca helps rescue her from a dangerous situation. There were definitely hints at these two then so I was looking forward to their story. And what a rollercoaster of a story it was.

These two came together in an arranged marriage that benefitted both of their mafia families. And even with their age gap, they seemed to be ready to make things work. Everything starts off great for them as they get married and honeymoon in Paris. Luca is the doting new husband and Natalya is definitely falling for his charms. She seems to get a side of him that others don’t see.

Of course heirs are important in this type of arrangement and Luca is ready to start right away. But as soon as they get that positive result, things start to change. Luca starts putting more and more distance between them and setting some surprising expectations. Natalya wants to have a real life with him and hopes to one day open up about the secret side of her she’s been hiding.

I don’t want to spoil some big twists. So I’ll just say there are some tragic events that happen that have life altering aftereffects for everyone. Be prepared for a love/hate relationship with Luca and to root for Natalya’s strength through everything. This is was great book in the series that surprised me.

Men of Club Triskelion #3

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The bad boy and the good girl…

Finn, the youngest of the Evans brothers, is known for spending time with a new woman every night. And you don’t want to find yourself on the wrong side of his favorite bat when the brothers come to send a message. He’s no stranger to violence and crime as part of his mafia family life. But he still finds time to confess his sins to the priest.

Finn’s world shifts on it’s axis when he walks out of the confessional one day to run right into the beautiful, shy, and innocent Catlin. She just so happens to be his priest’s niece back home from Ireland. He can’t resist her pull. And as he finds way to appear in her life, she can longer resist his charms.

Catlin finds the friendship, family, and acceptance she’s been craving through Finn’s loud and bold family. And she finds the passion she never realized was missing in her life. Finn is ready to do what he never imagined before, commit one woman.

Finn is fierce, obsessive, and protective. The chemistry between Finn and Catlin is immediate and intense but also patient and sweet. I absolutely loved these two together. Who knew what Finn really needed in life was a good girl? Great addition to this series. I’m ready for the next brother’s story now.

LSU #4

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Opposites attract…

Leo is the super shy college student studying coding with a side of dance. He’s not good with crowds, public speaking, or having the spotlight on him at all. Finn is the exact opposite. He’s an outgoing popular soccer player. He’s studying engineering while enjoying partying and hanging out with the team.

One thing they have in common is gaming. They find each other while playing the same online game and sparked a friendship. They started talking more and more and eventually turn their mics on. It comes as quite the shock when they realize they’re actually attending the same university.

Finn has a way of getting Leo to step out of his comfort zone through a series of small dares here and there throughout their growing friendship. Leo longs to be “normal” and not have so much anxiety. Finn is his rock and his comfort.

Leo is brought into Finn’s family like he’s always belonged there. And Leo discovers he has more friends and support than he ever realized. These two are perfect for each other even when they might not make sense on paper. They are in such adorable denial about what they really mean to each other as they grow closer. Their story is a sweet slow burn worth the wait.

Seattle Saints #1

Second chance sports romance…

Colt and Ella had a tumultuous on and off thing in college. They agreed it could never be anything more but at the same time they couldn’t keep away from each other. But when it came time for Ella to graduate they finally agreed that things between them were done and they needed to go their separate ways. They never could have predicted how things would change after that.

Colt went on to pursue his dream of being in the NFL. He made a name for himself, got to play ball with his friends, and made his way through meaningless hookups. Ella went back home to recover from her accident and ended up with engaged to a guy she knew from high school who did not treat her right.

Five years later when Ella gets invited by her college friends to come watch the big game she debates on if it will be worth seeing them if it also means seeing Colt again. Circumstances push her to make the trip and face her past. She reconnects with her found family and with Colt. They’ve both changed and grown since their college days but they both still have have some big issues to overcome.

Their passion is intense. They’ve been missing each other throughout the years. But that doesn’t mean things are easy. Colt and Ella both have problems that try to get in their way. And even though I would have loved to see a bit more groveling from Colt to make up for some of his faults, I did really love them together a lot. This was a great second chance story. And there are some hints at what could be next for the series that has me excited.

Darkness #1

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Soulmates in Two Realities…

Aria is living in two different realities. By day she’s part of the human world where she can’t help feeling so different from her normal family and those around her. By night she enters the shadow world of Faydor where she fights alongside others of her kind to protect unsuspecting humans from the Kruen who feed thoughts of evil and chaos into their minds.

When she wakes up from battles baring the scars and injuries from her fights, her parents think she’s hurting herself and losing her mind. The one true good thing she has to hold onto is her soulmate and partner in this shadow war, Pax. They are forbidden to meet in the waking world. But when Aria is in danger Pax is more determined to find and protect her than he is to follow along with rules that make no sense for them.

Together they take on a cross-country journey to put distance between them and those out to get them. But there’s a darker more powerful force in Faydor working to come after them in both the waking and shadow worlds. As they work to uncover more history about their kind and how to stop those after them, they also find it harder to resist the pull of their soul bond. Aria must figure out what her newfound powers mean and how she can use them. And they both have to figure out what they are willing to risk for each other.

I absolutely loved these two together. The whole concept of these dual realities and their overlap is so good. The fierce and protective bond between Aria and Pax is everything. This is a great start to this new dark romantasy series and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

Tanglewood University #3

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Twists, turns, and scandals…

Anne is trying to push through and deal with her grief after the tragic events with Professor Stratford. She’s struggling to find closure and she’s ready for some revenge. She wants the Shakespeare Society to pay for all the havoc they’re causing on campus. Their twisted actions continue to get darker and more dangerous. The school and the scholarship she’s relying on to stay there are at risk. And we get to see a little devious side from Anne in a very academic way.

I don’t want to give anything away to ruin what happens. This was a really good conclusion to Anne and William’s story. And there was plenty in here that made me wonder what we could see next in the Tanglewood world. I have questions and theories for some of the other characters that need answers. It was interesting to see a bit more of William’s brothers. I want even more now.
