Simply Nerdy Wedding Planning Collaboration Launch + Q&A

The excitement is real people! I’m so happy to finally give you all the details about this new passion project between my shop and Victoria (yup we have the same name) of Simply Nerdy Events. We’re bringing my digital planning work and her nontraditional wedding planning work together for an amazing new product line. And it’s officially launching today with our first (yep, there will be more) group of products.

It’s all about giving people, who might not be able to afford a full time wedding planner, the knowledge and resources to help them plan their big day. We’re embracing all things nerdy, sci-fi, fantasy, and nontraditional to bring something different to the world of wedding planning. Through our combined experience and knowledge with digital planning and wedding planning, we’re able to help you on your nontraditional wedding journey.

What’s products are we launching first?

First up, our new line of goodies matches my Arcane Beauty theme and includes a planner, a wedding planning guide, a combo version of those two all in one document, and a simple wedding planning sticker set. The year long planner counts down the months until your big day with monthly calendars, checklists, notes, resources, and more. The guide will help you with trips, tricks, instructions, charts, tables, and more to plan out all aspects of your event. Like I said, you can purchase those separately or together in the combo version. And the sticker set has all kinds of labels to add to your planner for different planning milestones, notes, and more plus some cute functional and deco pieces.

Simply Nerdy Q & A…

I thought it would be fun for you guys to get to know Vicky of Simply Nerdy Events a little better. If you’ve been following me long enough then you’re probably already aware of my quirky self so I figured I didn’t really need an introduction. But… if I’m wrong on that just let me know and maybe you guys can send me some questions for my own Q&A post. So without further ado here’s how our digital interview went…

Why Simply Nerdy?

I’ve always loved sci-fi and fantasy based things since I can remember I was raised watching Star Wars and Labyrinth, listening to Queen in the car and listening to Stephan King books on tape. It’s a part of my personality. I couldn’t imagine my life without them. So when it came to naming my company I wanted something that represented me and what I wanted my company to stand for. Encouraging others to celebrate their nerdy side makes me so happy. It’s hard to describe when I relate with a client on a fandom. Makes my heart sing!

How long have you been wedding planning?

I started my event coordination career while I was still in high school in 2009. I was planning, staffing, and coordinating children’s birthday parties in Palm Beach, FL at a indoor playground. Then transitioned to Wedding Planning in 2013, for an Indian wedding planning on Palm Beach Island. Got exposed to very important lessons early on how to stay organized and professional. We started Simply Nerdy in 2015 in Florida helping people I love get married in a nerdy way. We moved to OK in 2017 and Simply Nerdy really took flight starting with a Lord of the Rings vintage themed wedding at a beautiful venue. I knew I was where I needed to be.

Favorite Fandom?

It’s a toss up from Star Wars and Harry Potter. I’ve loved Star Wars for so long but grew up with Harry Potter. Especially with shows like Mandalorian & Andor coming out. But I can’t wait to play the new Hogwarts game. And I’m the happiest when I’m visiting Universal Studios- Diagon Alley. I also have a deep passion for musicals like West Side Story and Moulin Rouge. And I’m also obsessed with True Crime Documentaries. My Favorite movie is the Gangs of New York. So you can say I’m all over the Fandom Spectrum but that’s why I identify as a nerd!

What’s your experience level? How many weddings have you coordinated and what size were they?

Advanced! Personally, I’ve done 50 and I’ve done small elopements to 500 people, Indian weddings and everything in between.

What’s your favorite wedding theme that you’ve ever done?

My personal favorite theme has been Vintage Shire. It was the first themed wedding I did here in Oklahoma. I was just a coordinator at this wedding, but man did it look amazing. This bride knew what she wanted and we made it come to life. Her photos are still on my website.

What’s the most over the top wedding theme that you’ve ever done?

I did a full LARP wedding April 1st 2021. Everyone was ready for fighting and partying. Full cosplay was the attire. Even I was dressed as a Soul Eater character. It was a total blast. Everyone had a great time and the place was decorated like a vintage castle. It was amazing.

Are you personally on-site the day of the wedding or do you send a different coordinator?

I am Owner, operator, social media planner, your coordinator, and day of planner. I do it all. It was always my dream to be my own boss and run my own company one day and planning just came easy to me. Keeping you organized leading up to the wedding is very important. If you’ve planned efficiently and you stay as stress free as possible, your day should be smooth sailing.

Would you say you are more interested in the décor details or the logistical management of the day?

I care more about keeping you organized and stress free. And I think you have to prioritize your plan from day one of planning. If you prioritize décor then I will as well but if it’s not a huge deal to you then I will focus on other things that you prioritize more. I pride myself on becoming your personal assistant, not just someone who organizes your wedding for you. That’s a huge reason I wanted to create this planning guide, not only to help others not be afraid of being themselves and having that be represented on their wedding day, but to help people not stress out so much during the planning process.

What responsibilities will be on your plate the day of the event?

Anything and everything all at the same time. I believe a good coordinator is someone who fills a need or gets stuff done and fixes problems before they happen. There’s nothing I won’t do on the day of. I know that’s not always true with planners so when you’re doing your interview for planners or day of coordinators you ask questions like this.

What made you want to create a planner and guide for those looking to plan their own wedding?

I realized after moving to Oklahoma with my Husband, and having to start over in the wedding industry here, that I could help so many people that might be able to afford a full time planner. I could collect everything I’ve learned in the last 10 years to help someone who needs just a little confidence to do something different and something amazing for their wedding day! Plus I love planners myself and switching to digital planners is such and easy and affordable way I can reach as many people as possible.

What made you pick the Arcane Beauty theme for the launch of this new collaboration?

I fell in love with Calypso years ago for their creative and unique designs. At first I thought I wanted a heavy IP influenced planner but then I realized us nerdy people don’t just fall under one fandom or any box. So I thought let’s embody something I love and my favorite color is purple and I’m definitely a Punk Rock Girlie so Arcane Beauty just inspired me creatively.

How did you discover Calypso Creative Planning and knew it was the right fit for this new venture?

Most businesses run on social media and that’s exactly where I found Calypso. Not only was I determined to find someone who was just as passionate as me in this project, I ended up making a friend. We both believe so much in this planner and have worked what feels like years crafting this thing together. From the first Zoom from Victoria I new she was the right fit for a Simply Nerdy digital team.

What do you see next for this collaboration?

We already have planned two more theme releases this year. One for June that’s LGBTQIA themed. Now all our planners are inclusive. No bride and groom talk. Always refers to the couple as a whole. The second is a Vintage Viking theme. Very Shire meets the Witcher for October. We love all things spooky and we know you do too.
